Transformative Surfaces is a collection that explores the relationship between synthetic materials and natural form. Sourcing inspiration from peeling bark and prolific moss growth, this project's origin of inspiration is firmly planted in the natural world. However the material base for creating the pieces could not be more different as I explored the potential of reimagining natural textures out of synthetic materials. The primary material used was plastic carrier bags which were transformed through heating and melting processes and manipulation. The potential to transform this material was so much greater than I had expected. The outcome of this project was a series of highly experimental new materials which have the potential to be used in an interiors setting as contemporary wall coverings.
